How to add Supertrend to MetaTrader 5 in two minutes, and which settings the data supports: 10/3 on M30 made +1.62 pips per trade on EURUSD while all 16 settings lost on M5. A 450-point check found no repainting on closed bars, the H1 agreement filter made each trade worse, and ATR smoothing changed the signal on 7.54% of bars.

16 Supertrend combinations, 5 EMA pairs, 8 RSI setups and 8 ATR stop settings tested on gold M5 across a month when gold fell $233.80 and a month when it rose $557.90. Every Supertrend setting lost in the falling half. The best scalping setting — EMA 9/21 with a 2×ATR stop and 2R target — made +$1.52 per trade over 308 trades and stayed positive in both halves, on both sides and at double the spread.

Wick ratios, body-to-ATR filters, holding periods, sessions, trend filters and indicator confirmations — 59 variants on the same 16,926 bars, seven of them positive after costs and only two on a full sample. The holding period mattered more than every parameter combined, and every quality filter made things worse.

Nine setting combinations, one rule, the same 16,926 bars. Three were positive before costs and none after. The signal line mattered more than the averages — 12/26/18 beat 12/26/9 beat 12/26/5, cleanly. Plus what MT4 is really drawing when you add MACD, and why the strong-signal filter fell apart.

MT4 has RSI but no divergence, so every rule is your decision. Twelve setting combinations on 16,926 bars: three-bar swing points lost money, five-bar swing points made it, and the stop mattered more than any of them — 20/40 was worth +5.31 pips a trade, 10/10 was worth minus.

MT4 gives you Step and Maximum, and only one of them does anything. Eight settings tested on 16,926 bars: the best was 0.02 with the Maximum lowered to 0.1, and the popular advice to slow it down was the worst of the set.
